The Emperor respectfully inquires after the Upādhyāya Lang of Mount Tai: We have heard that your sagely virtue shines upon the age, your renown resounding across the Eastern Peak. Your ocean of spirit is vast and deep, and living beings are bathed in its moisture. When a great person arises in the world, he skillfully assists and rectifies the times; as We now unfold military plans, We look afar to receive your wondrous reckonings. In the past, Liu Yao brought ruin to the borderlands, and the Rong and Di barbarians inherited his work; when Emperor Yuan arose like a dragon, he took refuge south of the Yangtze. The ancient capital was submerged, and the divine land was plunged into turmoil; the common people suffered hardships, left under foreign dress. Whenever this thought occurs to Us, Our heart sighs in sorrow. Driving deep into Wei and Zhao, We have swept away and pacified the Yan. Now Our dragon banners are rising to recover the Yi and Luo rivers, and We desire to join with the Upādhyāya in nurturing living beings. Since the ultimate person penetrates subtle matters, We trust you understand Our intention. We now dispatch an envoy to deliver an image decorated with five-colored pearls, fifty bolts of Mingguang brocade, five ivory mats, and five gold alms bowls. Upon arrival, may you deign to accept them.
