孝綽和南。辱誨垂示。勅旨所答劉太僕思効啟。義窮深遠語兼巧便。伏聞希有身心踊躍。昔戈盾夾車。備不虞於周后。兵旗引駕。防未然於漢君。斯皆執心黃屋瑞無紺馬。事極寰㝢之中。理隔天人之外。皇上自茲善覺。降迹閻浮。以住地之心。行則天之化。故能慈導三有仁濟萬物。猶以法藥未周寶船不倦。解劍却蓋躬詣道場。瑞花承足。人觀雕輦之盛金輪啟路。物覩重英之飾。顯實開權事均祇鷲。本無四畏寧慮五怨。思効遂膚引梁丘隨劍之說。日磾觸瑟之辭。何異迴龍象於兔徑。注江海於牛跡。聖旨慇懃曲相誘喻。豈直淨一人之垢衣。將以破群生之暗室。弟子世傳正見幼覩真言。但惑網所縈塵勞自結。微因宿植仰逢法教。親陪寶座預餐香鉢。復得俱聽一音共聞八解。庶因小葉受潤大雲。猥蒙開示。深自慶幸。不勝歡喜。略附陳誠。劉孝綽和南。

Xiaochuo bows with joined palms. I was humbled to receive your instruction, which displayed the imperial decree responding to the memorial of Liu Sixiao, Minister of the Imperial Stud. Its meaning exhausts the profound and far-reaching, and its phrasing combines skillful means. Hearing of such rarity, my body and mind leaped with joy. In ancient times, spears and shields flanked the carriage to prepare against unforeseen dangers for the King of Zhou; military banners led the procession to guard against the unexpected for the Han ruler. These were all minds clinging to the imperial carriage, while their omens lacked the dark-blue steed; their affairs reached only the limit of the terrestrial realm, their principles being cut off outside the domain of gods and humans. But since His Majesty's wondrous enlightenment, he descended his traces to Jambudvīpa. With the mind of the stages of abiding, he carried out the transformation modeled upon Heaven. Thus he was able to guide the three realms of existence with compassion and deliver the myriad creatures with benevolence. Still considering that the dharma-medicine is not yet universal and the jeweled vessel never tires, he unbuckled his sword, set aside his parasol, and personally visited the bodhimanda. Auspicious flowers supported his footsteps as people beheld the magnificence of his carved chariot; the golden wheel opened the path as all creatures gazed upon the adornment of his double honors. Revealing the real and opening the provisional, his deeds matched Jetavana and Gṛdhrakūṭa. Originally devoid of the four types of fearlessness, how could he worry about the five grudges? Yet Sixiao went so far as to draw shallowly upon Liangqiu's account of following the sword, and Ridi's words upon bumping into the zither. How is this different from turning the dragon-elephant onto a rabbit's path, or pouring the rivers and oceans into an ox's footprint? The sagely intention earnestly and subtly induced and guided him. Was it merely to cleanse the soiled robe of one single person? It will surely shatter the dark chambers of all living beings! This disciple has for generations inherited right view and from youth beheld the true words; yet, entangled by the net of delusion, defilements knot themselves within me. Owing to a slight cause planted in past lives, I have reverently encountered the teachings of the Dharma, personally attended the jeweled throne, and partaken of the fragrant bowl. Furthermore, I have been able to listen together to the single voice and jointly hear the eight liberations. I hope that through a tiny leaf I may receive the moisture of the Great Cloud. Having unexpectedly received your instruction, I deeply celebrate and rejoice in my good fortune, overwhelmed with joy. I briefly attach this to present my sincere devotion.
