Driving cranes soar over the Yi River; / Spurring horses, they depart the royal fields. / Our sovereign visits the Gṛdhrakūṭa and Jeta Groves; / Comparing deeds, it outshines the past. / Kingfisher canopies catch the morning light; / Pearled banners trail the dawn mist. / Pavilions and canopies bring glory to crags and valleys; / Red cords and silks dazzle along forest paths. / How much more on this elevated ground, / Arriving again in the year's autumn wind! / Tall boughs shed their summer foliage; / Secluded ravines run clear with cooling springs. / Halting his carriage before the precious seat, / His expositions delight gods and humans. / Settling the dust relies on drops of the sea; / Illuminating darkness looks to the burning lamp. / Once the companions of the Dharma disperse, / Pipes and swords solemnly prepare to return. / Encountering by chance this generous favor, / Entrusted in the carriages, I accompany talents and worthies. / Though commanded to compose verse together, / My only lingering regret is being the one to end the scrolls.
