Cleansing the body, I attend to the jewel precepts,
Not studying the golden cinnabar.
On moonlit stone steps, I now and then rest my head;
At cloudy cliffs, I unharness the saddle for the night.
In the Sanskrit temple, training the mind is easy;
In the courtyard of dhyāna, counting breaths is difficult.
In stone ravines, icy currents run silent;
From mountain windows, fallen leaves bring chill.
You yearn for the carriage at the Northern Palace gate;
I cherish the cap of retirement from the Eastern Capital.
Instead, I sorrow that the night bell will cease,
And companions of common purpose will not linger on.
