On the nineteenth day, guihai, of the fourth month in the dingwei year, the first year of Zhenming, I entered She Mountain to pay respects to Dharma Master Huibu. Remembering the collection of Xie Lingyun, when he returned to his home mountain and entered among the stone walls to seek the Daoist Tanlong, he composed a poem of eleven rhymes. Now, in this clumsy work, I follow the Kangle style. By Duke Jiang, Prefect of the Masters of Writing:
The fine drizzle of seasonal rain has cleared;
Balmy early summer begins.
Resting amid the green fields,
I ascend toward the crest of rosy clouds.
Revering the virtue of the lofty man,
I raise my aspirations beyond dust and worldly things.
The three emptannesses opened, I have realized them;
How insignificant the ten thousand beings!
From first to last, where my feelings lodge,
Our dark bond is surely not slight.
In lotus robes I walk by forest springs;
The scent of wheat brings coolness to dusk and dawn.
Riding the wind, the air is crisp and cool;
Waiting for the moon, it shines pure and bright.
At misty cliffs, I rest upon ancient rocks;
On cloudy paths, I part migratory birds.
Opening the trails, I admire their dense gloom;
Grasping branches, I treasure their distant secluded heights.
Throughout life, I have forgotten right and wrong;
Decaying and passing, how could I boast or pretend?
From here I traverse the five purities;
May the seven defilements disturb me no more.
