5.26

又曰。吾將以為教父原斯談也。未為絕學。所云絕者。堯孔之學耶。堯孔之學隨時設教。老氏之言一其所尚隨時設教。所以道通百代。一其所尚。不得不滯於適變。此又闇弊。所未能通者也。

It also says: 'I shall take it as the father of my teachings.' Tracing back this statement, it is not yet abandoning learning. What he calls 'abandoning'—is it the learning of Yao and Confucius? The learning of Yao and Confucius established teachings according to the times; Laozi's words made uniform what he esteemed. Establishing teachings according to the times is the reason the Way pervades a hundred generations; making uniform what he esteemed cannot help but become stuck when adapting to change. This is another obscurity and shortcoming which fails to attain penetration.
