南郡人少孤貧。學於沛國劉瓛而卓越不群。在門下積年。芒屩布衣徒行。而危言高論。盛稱無佛有於自然。其詞。亦備後法義篇。沈休文難之。故不煩載。

A man of Nanjun, orphaned and poor in his youth. He studied under Liu Huan of the state of Pei and was outstanding and unexcelled. He spent years among his disciples, wearing straw sandals and cloth garments, walking on foot, yet giving lofty discourses and bold arguments, vigorously declaring that there is no Buddha and that existence comes from nature. His writings are also fully recorded in the subsequent chapter on doctrinal meanings. Shen Xiuwen refuted him, so I will not trouble to record it here.
