Fourth, he argued: 'If monks and nuns wear coarse cloth and reduce their vegetarian feasts, then the poor will not starve and silkworms will not die untimely deaths. Your subject has heard that the Buddha's precepts command monks and nuns to wear robes made of rags from the dust heap, to carry a five-pieced bowl, to eat one meal at midday, and to sit alone in the mountains dwelling purely in meditation and chanting. This is the Buddha's standard regulation. If one kills silkworms to make clothes, the Buddha's precepts do not allow it. Now we know that the Buddha's principles are empty, and hence these violations arise' (these are the words of Xun Ji). The rest are vulgar insults and the base words of vile underlings, not worthy to be heard.
