8.27

問。老子之教。蓋修身治國絕棄貴尚。論大道則為三才之元。辯上德則為五事之本。猶陶埏之成造。譬槖籥之不窮。先生何為抑在儒下。

"Question: The teaching of Laozi cultivates the self and governs the state, casting aside honor and high status. Discussing the Great Dao, it serves as the origin of the Three Powers; analyzing supreme virtue, it forms the root of the five matters. It is like the molding of clay into vessels, or the inexhaustibility of the bellows. Why do you, Master, suppress it beneath Confucianism?"
