The 'Duwang pin' says: 'The Heavenly Worthy addressed King Cunda, saying: "Among the assemblies of sages who have attained the Dao, down to the Tathāgatas [numerous as] the sands of the Ganges, none failed to attain it through accumulating practices from an ordinary stage. The ten immortals are countless; there are also those who with a single rise achieve the station of a single immortal, and there are those who ascend through accumulating kalpas. If their merit is high, it is accomplished in a single leap; if their merit is low, it takes ten ascents. There are ten stages: from Joyous to Cloud of Dharma, fully endowed with the marks and characteristics." Thereupon, when the kings heard this explanation, they immediately attained the four fruitions.'
