9.44

臣笑曰。檢道經州縣之名。文似近代所出。古縣大而郡小。見于春秋及周書洛誥。今反以郡大於縣。是則非春秋已前道經乎。誣惘迷謬不可觀。而可笑也。

Your servant laughs and says: When examining the names of provinces and commanderies in the Daoist scriptures, the text seems to have originated in recent ages. In antiquity, counties were large and commanderies were small, as seen in the Chunqiu and the 'Luo gao' of the Zhoushu. Now, on the contrary, commanderies are made larger than counties—is this not [proof that] it is not a Daoist scripture from before the Chunqiu period? It is deceitful, confusing, and erroneous, unfit to behold, and truly laughable.
