9.68

老子化胡歌曰。我在舍衛時。約勅瞿曇身。汝共摩訶薩。齎經來東秦。歷落神州界。迫至東海間。廣宣世尊法。教授聾俗人。與子威神法。化道滿千年。年滿時當還。慎莫戀東秦。無令天帝怒。太上蹋地瞋。

The Song of Laozi Converting the Barbarians says:
“When I was in Śrāvastī,
I charged and commanded Gautama in person:
‘You and the Mahāsattvas
Shall carry the scriptures to the Eastern Qin.
Traverse the borders of the Divine Continent,
Reaching right to the Eastern Sea.
Broadly proclaim the World-Honoured One’s Dharma,
Instructing and transforming the deaf, worldly people.
I bestow upon you the awe-inspiring, spiritual methods;
Your teaching and conversion shall fulfill a thousand years.
When the years are fulfilled, you must return;
Be careful not to yearn for the Eastern Qin.
Do not cause the Heavenly Emperor to rage,
Or the Most High to stamp upon the ground in wrath!’”
