On the fifteenth day of the fourth month in the fourth year of the Jianyuan era, the Crown Prince gathered prominent monks of the Mahāyāna in the Xuanpu Garden. Their retreat took place around the precious pond of the imperial park. He fully provided the offerings: precious terraces and patterned pavilions, donated to the Buddha and the saṃgha. He sounded the profound note through the six skies, and proclaimed the subtle words across eternal kalpas. The three vidyās declared their wondrous fruition; the ten abodes praised their auspicious conditions. Stepping through the two seasonal vapors, his practice ascended; completing the ninety days, his merit was accomplished. When the full moon of the seventh month had passed, he respectfully renounced his precious body, along with his chariots and crowns, down to the tassels, totaling ninety-nine items. He vowed that through this power, [grace] would universally cover the dark and the bright: that the imperial house would possess the stability of Song and Hua, and that the black-haired commoners would enjoy the blessings of benevolence and longevity. If there are those sinking in the sea of suffering, may they awaken according to principle; may those who have fallen onto the soaring paths return before straying far. May the ten directions and the three times all bear witness to these words: should this vow be breached, may I never attain correct awakening.
