Previously, when Hao and Kou Qianzhi both accompanied [the campaign], Qianzhi strenuously debated with Hao, but Hao would not heed him. Qianzhi said: 'You are now cutting short your lifespan and dooming your entire clan to destruction!' In the eleventh year of the Zhenjun reign era, Hao was executed with all five corporal punishments, being seventy years of age at the time. The Emperor felt considerable regret; however, the deed had already been done, and restoration was difficult midway through. Gongzong secretly wished to revive it, but did not dare speak out. At that time the laws were relaxed and unenforced; households that preserved their faith served śramaṇas, and those who secretly donned the Dharma robes and chanted scriptures were abundant. In the second month of the thirteenth year, [the Emperor] died of his affliction. His son Huang died as a result of slander, and his grandson was enthroned.
