From the Chancellery: Controller Ying looks up to and continues the former sages, following in the footsteps of the gate of the Way. Embracing the profound model, the aloof doctrine is entrusted to him. Since he has already relinquished secular fame, it is reasonable that he be given special offerings. Drawing on the meaning of the eight liberations (vimokṣa), let him be granted an annual gift of eight hundred bolts of silk. Modeled on the four classes of disciples, let it be distributed according to the four seasons. Furthermore, the basis of cultivating goodness truly depends on physical vitality; the cause of offering food is praised in the inner scriptures. Let it be granted monthly according to the upper rank of court officials. The reason for drawing such an analogy to the deep principle is not only to develop and venerate the secular mind, but also to encourage and stimulate the resolve for the Way.
