Although householders drink wine and eat meat like this, they still do not lose their worldly livelihoods unless they become grossly addicted and muddled; in that case they cannot maintain them. But if one who has left the household drinks wine and eats meat, whether in large or small amounts, they sever the seed of Buddhahood. Thus, in this ninth way, they fall short of householders. The reasons why they fall short of non-Buddhists and fall short of householders have been briefly set forth, nine items each. In discussing the faults of desire, the categories are manifold; they can be inferred by analogy, so I shall not explain them in full.
