On the morning of the twenty-third day, Fayun of Guangzhai Temple ascended the high seat facing east in front of Hualin Hall to serve as the Dharma master. Huiming of Waguan Temple ascended the high seat facing west to serve as the reciter-commentator (dujiang). They recited one-fourth of the 'Chapter on the Four Marks' of the Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra, expounding the meaning that eating meat cuts off the seed of great compassion. Fayun explained it. The imperial carriage arrived in person. A mat was spread on the ground to the north of the high seats, and the two assemblies of monks and nuns were seated in order. When the lecture ended, Daocheng of Qidu Temple ascended the high seat facing west, recited this text on abstaining from meat, and then proclaimed the words transmitted [from the emperor]. When the recitation was finished, they bowed, repented, and after the midday meal was universally served, they departed.
