The Emperor respectfully inquires after Upādhyāya Lang of Mount Tai. Having met with many hardships in our house, disasters and calamities have repeatedly arrived. Formerly, in the Jianxi era, the royal house fled westward. Relying on King Wu's restoration, his divine martial prowess governed the world and vastly opened the eastern lands; he rescued and elevated the realm, and far and near received revitalization. The world was exceedingly fortunate. Yet Heaven had not forgotten disaster: King Wu suddenly passed away. At the beginning of the Yongkang era, we leaned to the west and were tossed to the east; the sovereign of the capital fled into exile. Whenever I think of the numinous palace, I pace anxiously and drink my tears. Having no virtue, I was born amid chaotic troops, and with the surviving people not yet settled, I succeeded to the heavenly mandate. Relying on the Upādhyāya's great grace and the canopy of protection from the spirits and deities, an envoy is sent with one hundred bolts of silk, and I additionally bestow the revenues of the two counties of Fenggao and Shanren in Eastern Qi. The letter cannot exhaust my meaning, but expresses my heart.
