The eight difficulties, the nine untimely deaths, the five defilements, the three disasters; water, fire, bandits, thieves, pestilence, and famine; enemies, creditors, king's laws, and magistrates; oppressive powers of ten thousand kinds and cruel murders of a thousand varieties—all can be turned from calamity into fortune, transformed from danger into security. Moreover, there are those seeking wealth and nobility, needing office and rank, prolonging their lifespans, or desiring many offspring: the great desires of living people and the pressing essentials of the world are all, according with their minds and responding to their thoughts, naturally fulfilled. Hence we know that the skillful means of the Buddhas surpass all thought.
I, your disciple, oversee the people with few strategies; the myriad achievements are not yet ordered. I rely precisely on Bhaiṣajyaguru's fundamental vows to bring sentient beings to completion. Now, reverently following the scriptural teachings, at [such] a place I establish a Bhaiṣajyaguru fast and repentance with so many monks for so many days. The great assembly here present pays homage with utmost devotion to our Original Teacher, Śākyamuni Tathāgata; pays homage to Bhaiṣajyaguru Tathāgata. His compassion broadly covers, not contravening his fundamental vows nor abandoning the world. He raises the clouds of the four immeasurables and showers the rain of the six perfections; he extinguishes the fires of birth and death and removes the arrows of affliction. The worlds of the ten directions are bright and clear as revolving lamps; the seven hundred spirits follow the knotted cords and respond to the summons. Hindrances vanish with the burning of incense, and calamities exist no more; life continues with the prolonging of banners, gradually ascending to the eternal abode. May we roam through the profound Dharma-nature, enter the unexcelled true enlightenment, and fulfill our practices and vows just like Bhaiṣajyaguru Tathāgata.
