皇運初興。傅令陳表仲卿進喜踳駁佛僧。著論形於見聞。興言在於貶退。琳遂依而抗拒引道敬我佛乘。劉李違師背教妄作冒罔凡聖。及。

when the August Tang dynasty first arose, Astrologer Fu submitted his memorial, while Li Zhongqing and Liu Jinxi attacked and criticized the Buddha and the sangha, composing treatises based on what they saw and heard, with their proclamations aimed at demoting and expelling [the Buddhists]. Falin thereupon relied on these [materials] to resist them, citing Daoist sources that revere our Buddhist vehicle, [showing that] Liu and Li defied their masters, betrayed their teachings, and made reckless fabrications that deceived both mortals and sages.
