In the first year of the Longshuo era of the Tang [661 CE], made by Guo Xingzhen, Grand Master for Court Discussion and Daoist priest of Xihua Abbey. Zhen considers that the Dao is merely primordial qi, not the illumination of form and likeness; the Buddha is called the Great Awakened One, the supreme model for reverence and emulation. The Buddha is called the father of the Dao, and monks are called the foremost guests. The clear texts of the sacred teachings allow no concealment. Therefore, having respectfully copied scriptures and images, transmitting and honoring what had not been heard, clearing the deep-rooted obstacles of myriad ages, and establishing the peerless course of a hundred kings, he wishes that the chariot of the One Vehicle be driven, commanding the heights over the heterodox and the orthodox, and that the nine heavens offer homage, encompassing the unseen and the seen to assist transformation.
