爾時諸觀道士姜斌與融覺寺法師曇謨最對論 帝問曰。佛與老子同時以不 姜斌對曰。老子西入化胡。以充侍者。明是同時 法師問曰。何以知之 姜斌對曰。案老子開天經。是以得知。
At that time, Jiang Bin, a Daoist master of the various abbeys, engaged in debate with Tanmozui, a Dharma master of Rongjue Temple. The Emperor asked, saying, 'Were the Buddha and Laozi contemporaneous or not?' Jiang Bin replied, 'Laozi traveled west to convert the barbarians, and took [the Buddha] to serve as his attendant; clearly they were contemporaneous.' The Dharma Master asked, 'How do you know this?' Jiang Bin replied, 'According to Laozi's Kaitian jing, it is known on this basis.'
