Emperor Wencheng, the High Predecessor of the Wei (taboo name Jun): Intelligent, perceptive, and acutely discerning, his demeanor was peerless. He revitalized Buddhism and renovated monastic compounds. The wide spread of the Śākya gate truly began with Wencheng. In all, he ordained some thirty thousand monks and nuns.
