Emperor Xiaoxuan of Zhou (personal name Yun) once more exalted the Buddha sun, outshining successors and surpassing predecessors. He made four niches of unadorned images, numbering over ten thousand, and had about three thousand copies of the Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra transcribed. The six vegetarian feast days were not neglected, and the eight precepts were never violated. Through long nights and clear mornings he practiced walking meditation and chanted recitations, establishing the four great vows and directing his aspiration to sambodhi.
