In ancient times, when the Royal Scribe tarried in Zhounan and disappeared beyond the Hangu Pass, his descendants took their surname from his official post and thus were called Shi. His grandfather Zun was Inspector of Liangzhou; his father Ning was Pillar of State and Duke Anzheng Lie. Both had profound schemes and grand strategies, saving the times and aiding the world. Yet their household venerated the Three Jewels, and all of them observed the eight purificatory precepts. He built the Anzheng Temple to invisibly perfume his ancestors [with merit].
