A spirit sent down from the sacred peaks and rivers, he was endowed with harmony and purity. His mountain-like brow and upturned temples invisibly matched the virtue of the Standard-bearer Star; with a tortoise-shell chest and river-like eyes, he was naturally blessed with the bearing of one ordained to guide his era. In filial piety he exemplified following the right course; in loyalty he served as a fine standard. He had a gentle, reverent, magnanimous, and generous nature, and the vast, far-reaching talent of Emperor Jianwen; he had the ways to govern a state and exalt a house, and the strategies to correct the world and rescue his era. In stern candor he showed the spirit of Zhou She; in dignified serenity he harbored the style of Guan Zhong. The Ten Capable Ministers could not surpass him, nor could the Three Heroes rival him. 'Verily, his legs and arms were excellent'—this truly applied to him! Yet he directed his merits toward the root of the Dharma and venerated the Buddhist school. He renounced his residence and offered up all its halls, converting it into a golden ground and immediately erecting a jewel-like monastery. There were moon-halls and golden statues, lotus pedestals and flower canopies; various and ornate were its splendors, and every single thing was freshly luminous.
