奕葉衣纓朝廷杞梓。志識詳幹器宇淹通。善六國之音。達四方之俗。既總彛倫之要。偏知帷策之機。而篤信居懷。片善必記。興福建寺所在行檀。大起法堂廣羅佛殿。於襄州造盧舍那夾紵像。高一百二十尺。相好奇異靈應殊常。

Generation after generation wore the caps and sashes of office, providing the timber of cedar and catalpa for the court. His intellect was clear and capable, his capacity profound and versatile. He was proficient in the languages of the six barbarian states and understood the customs of the four quarters. Having mastered the essentials of the eternal moral principles, he was especially adept at the subtleties of strategy in the army tent. Yet he held sincere faith in his heart, recording every single act of goodness. Wherever he was, he generated merit and built temples, practicing giving; he erected great Dharma halls on a grand scale and laid out Buddha halls across broad areas. In Xiangzhou he made a dry-lacquer statue of Vairocana, one hundred and twenty feet high, whose marks and characteristics were extraordinary, and whose miraculous responses were singular.
