率性不群。自然行已。鉤深致遠。懷文抱質。鴻鵠將飛。便懷四海之志。驥騄方騁。已有千里之心。雖政事殷廣。常以金剛般若為業。每月六齋終身靡廢。

He followed his natural temperament without mingling with the crowd, conducting himself with spontaneity. He plumbed the depths to reach what was far; he harboured literary refinement and embraced substantial qualities. As a swan about to take flight, he embraced the ambition of the four seas; like a fleet steed about to gallop, he already had the intention of covering a thousand li. Although administrative affairs were numerous and broad, he constantly took the Diamond Prajñā[-pāramitā Sūtra] as his practice. On the six fast days of every month, he never neglected it throughout his life.
