The Note of Rebuttal says: Qian is yang and the father, residing in the northwest; Kun is yin and the mother, divined in the southwest. The north is the realm of flourishing yin, yet it becomes the position of the middle son; the south is the land of flourishing yang, yet it turns into the dwelling of the middle daughter. Since male and female have no fixed directions, yin and yang are not bound by a permanent standard. Thus, wood plunders earth, so Ji is taken as the wife of Jia; metal overcomes wood, so Yi is taken as the wife of Geng. Since Qian's position is lofty, it resides in the northwest; Zhen can bring forth the thearch, yet it is in the east. As for ritual mats, if spread from north to south, the west is considered supreme, which is said to conform to the honor of Qian; if arranged from east to west, the south is considered supreme, which is said to follow the fullness of yang. Superiority and inferiority are naturally evident—is this not what is meant?
