The External Argument says: The marvelous marks of sages are inherently different from those of ordinary mortals: eight-colored eyes with double pupils, river-like eyes and sea-like mouth, a dragon face and crane stride, an inverted forehead and extraordinary body hair. As for curly hair and green irises, these are the original features of barbarians; high noses and deep-set eyes are the ordinary forms of foreigners. How could they be compared to our sages and taken as wondrous marks? If serving the Buddha brings such recompense, gentlemen and ladies of the Central Plains would conversely take on barbarian forms! This is the eighth difference, regarding marks and signs.
