8.42

甄鸞笑曰。昔年二十之時。心好道術。就諸道士。先行黃書合氣三五七九男女交接之道。四目四鼻孔兩口兩舌四手。令心正對陰陽。法二十四氣之數行道。真決在於丹田。唯以禁祕為急。不泄道路。不得更相嫉姤。行者災厄皆除。號為真人度世延年。交夫易婦唯色為先。父兄立前不知羞恥。自稱中氣真術。今民間道士常行此法。以之求道有所未許。

Zhen Luan laughed and said: "Formerly, when I was twenty years of age, my mind delighted in the arts of the Dao. Approaching the various Daoist masters, I first practiced the Yellow Book's path of uniting qi in three, five, seven, and nine, and the sexual intercourse of men and women. With four eyes, four nostrils, two mouths, two tongues, and four hands, making their minds face yin and yang directly, they practiced the Dao by modeling on the number of the twenty-four qi. The true secret lies in the cinnabar field. They took prohibition and secrecy as urgent, never leaking it on the roads, and forbade mutual jealousy. Practitioners would have all calamities eradicated, were called True Persons, crossing beyond the world and extending their years. Trading husbands and swapping wives, they put lust above all else; fathers and elder brothers stood before them without any sense of shame. They proclaimed this to be the true art of the central qi. Nowadays, Daoist masters among the people constantly practice this method; their seeking the Dao through this is something I cannot accept."
