I state again: Venerable, you possess great and superior karmic affinity; wherever you abide, learners gather like clouds and turn to you like shadows. This is truly a glorious event of this final age, a great blessing! Strive all the more to make use of yourself. I have improperly presided over Chan seats, but my virtue is thin and my words carry little weight; I am not trusted by the times, only fatiguing my ears and eyes in vain. Recently I have had the intention of hiding away in Luofu; if I do set out, my path will surely take me through Jiangnan, and I shall come to pay homage and seek your exalted gathering. Venerable Gonghui is a lifelong bosom friend; now in his old age he has been at one edge [of the land] for two years, and converting monks do not reach him, nor do I hear his voice. If you happen to send a letter, I beg you to mention my name to him. Huanglong is an ancient famous monastery and must be suitable for serene living. Facheng always spoke of the scenery of Jicui; hearing of it moved my spirit and made my heart soar. Who resides there now? My foolish nephew has received your instruction from early on and is now somewhat presentable; how could that lad ever repay your deep kindness? The road is long, and I cannot present humble gifts before you; I merely gaze upon you with heartfelt veneration.
