I bow my head. Although I heard that you have condescended to read the Dingzu tu and Zongji, I have not yet received your evaluation, and my humble mind cannot help feeling disappointed. When your honored letter arrived, it praised and embellished them beyond measure; could it be that, as a great spiritual mentor, you merely wished to encourage others for the sake of the Dharma? I feel both grateful and ashamed. Throughout my life, although timid, worthless, and lacking great accomplishments, I have nonetheless been eager to hear of gentlemen of clear, lofty, and noble understanding. For over thirty years, I have merely admired your pure practice from afar, unable to share in your superior assembly even once; this has been my lingering regret. Learning that you are again leading the great assembly at Mount Huanglong, how could any letter fully express my sincerity in admiring your virtue? In the warm spring, I earnestly hope above all that you will take good care of yourself for the Dharma's sake. With a returning monk, I respectfully express my humble thoughts.
