某啟。東林莊僕至辱手筆。知退法席專育高趣。欽羨欽羨。但廬阜不得鎮嚴。亦禪林之不幸。見邀虎溪之居。足仞風義盛重。但某濡滯不能即拜雅會。殊為慊然。餘且別副未披覲間。千萬善愛。

I state: When the estate servant from Donglin arrived, I was favored by your handwritten letter, learning that you have retired from the Dharma seat to devote yourself to nurturing lofty inclinations. I admire you deeply! Yet without your presiding over and dignifying Mount Lu, it is also a misfortune for the Chan groves. Your inviting me to dwell at Tiger Stream sufficiently demonstrates the greatness and weight of your noble character and righteousness. However, being detained, I cannot immediately pay my respects at your refined assembly, which brings me great regret. Leaving other matters to another enclosure before I can see you, above all take good care of yourself.
