某啟。專人至辱手教慰諭足仞久要之不忘也萬感萬感。法印和尚不可救療。遂至如此。愴感無已。索文志其塔。雖腆忝相知至於厚善當此豈可飾讓耶。且以拙直之筆聊奉佳命。亦表生平交契之誠耳。用舍更在裁之益熱千萬為法自重謹此咨答。不宣。

I state: A special messenger arrived, and I was honored by your handwritten instruction and consolations, which sufficiently proved that you have not forgotten our old bonds; I am immensely moved. Venerable Fayin could not be cured and has ended thus; my grief is endless. You requested a text to record his funerary stūpa; although I am ashamed of being regarded as an intimate friend, when it comes to deep benevolence, how could I offer polite refusals at such a time? With a clumsy and direct brush, I have ventured to comply with your fine command, which also expresses the sincerity of our lifelong bond. Its adoption or rejection remains up to your discretion. In the growing heat, above all take care of yourself for the Dharma's sake. I respectfully submit this reply. [Respectfully,] no further.
