某啟。音信雖不相通。而欽服道素徒此勤切（或云勤勤）某無狀老更彌篤。春季間罷去佛日深匿龍山。蕭然人不堪其憂而余之未嘗自厭。比欲致奉問聆道。蓋淮南未還。故不果。然適會曹君。乃知起居清勝。善慰孤迹。不肖見謀往廬山治行。當首拜道場。冬寒未見間。萬乞善愛謹此布區區不宣。

I state: Although no messages have passed between us, my admiration for your pure practice has been diligent and earnest in vain (some say: diligent and frequent). I am of no account, and in my old age I become even more stubborn. During the spring, I retired from Mount Fori and hid myself deeply in Mount Long. Desolate, others could not endure its grief, but I have never grown weary of it myself. Recently I wished to send greetings and listen to your teachings, but because I had not returned from Huainan, I did not succeed. However, having just met Master Cao, I learned that your daily life is pure and prosperous, which greatly comforts my solitary path. Unworthy as I am, I am currently planning to go to Mount Lu to prepare my journey, and shall first pay homage to your sanctuary. In the winter cold before we meet, I earnestly beg you to take good care of yourself. I respectfully state my humble thoughts. [Respectfully,] no further.
