某啟。適早監寺至辱牋命。就所栖以預精饌。意愛之勤。豈可言諭乃盡誠素。某雖不善與人交。豈敢以今日之事自虧節義無煩相外清集方當大暑告且為罷之書。謹令人回納。伏冀慈照。

I state: Earlier this morning the prior arrived, and I was honored by your written invitation to join a fine banquet at your dwelling. How could the diligence of your affectionate regard be fully expressed in words? It exhausted your sincerity. Although I am not good at socializing with others, how could I dare damage my integrity because of today's affair? Please do not treat me as an outsider; this pure assembly coincides with the great summer heat, so I beg you to cancel it for now. I respectfully send someone to return the letter. I humbly hope for your compassionate illumination.
