江之山兮。康廬效靈。江之水兮。九江泚清。合其氣兮。誕為人英。君得之兮。既聰且明。道德脩兮。器識恢宏。竟不展兮。奪化代并。公之壽兮。令名不朽。君之福兮。學問富有。仁義家傳兮。子孫寶守。孰謂既往兮。不光其後。湓江浮天兮。緣淨漪漪。白石青草兮。日暮參差。若人不歸兮。萬古別離。相望丘墓兮。千里依依。

O the mountains of the River, / Mount Lu displays its spiritual power! / O the waters of the River, / The Nine Rivers are clear and pristine! / Uniting their vital energy, / An outstanding man was born. / You obtained it, / Both intelligent and clear-sighted. / Your morality was cultivated, / Your capacity and discernment were vast and grand. / In the end you could not unfold them, / Snatched away by transformation in your prime. / Sir, your longevity / Consists in an immortal good name! / Sir, your fortune / Lies in the richness of your learning! / Benevolence and righteousness transmitted in the family, / Treasured and guarded by sons and grandsons. / Who says that having passed away, / You do not shed glory on posterity? / The Pen River touches the sky, / Green and pure with gentle ripples. / White stones and green grass, / Uneven in the evening dusk. / This man does not return, / Parted for ten thousand ages. / Gifting glances toward your mound and tomb, / Across a thousand li my longing lingers on.
