17.10

標師之高摩雲霄。在德豈在於沈寥。一庵嶺底寄幽獨。抗迹蕭然不入俗。有時虛陟層崖眺。不聞其語聞清嘯。當時陸羽事幽討。曾入青雲預聞道。取雨救旱驅神龍。此與人間事豈同。冥機感異心之苗。此公所以稱道標。

Master Biao's loftiness grazed the clouds in the sky; / It lay in virtue—how could it lie in sinking into seclusion? / With a single hermitage at the mountain's foot, he lodged his secluded solitude; / Loftily aloof, carefree, he did not enter worldly dust. / At times he climbed empty crags to gaze afar; / One heard not his speech, but his clear whistling. / In those days Lu Yu pursued secluded quests, / Once entering the blue clouds to hear the Way in his presence. / Bringing rain to relieve drought, commanding spiritual dragons— / How could this be the same as human affairs? / The dark working responded to marvels, a sprout of the mind; / This is why the master was called Daobiao.
