17.46

山家昨夜房櫳冷。梧桐一葉飄金井。長天如水淨藏雲。明月含暉變秋景。桂枝花拆風飄飄。誰在高樓吹玉簫。人間不見槎升漢。天上將看鵲作橋。年少征人在何處。白露霑衣未歸去。海畔今無漂母家。江南誰與王孫遇。徘徊月下空長吟。吾徒自古難知音。欲上高臺問明月。明月何不照人心。

In the mountain dwelling last night, room and lattice were cold; / A single parasol leaf fluttered down into the golden well. / The vast sky, clear like water, concealed all clouds; / The bright moon, holding its radiant glow, transformed the autumn scene. / Cassia branch flowers open as the wind flutters; / Who upon the high tower plays the jade flute? / In the mortal world, no raft is seen ascending the River of Heaven; / In the heavens, magpies are about to make their bridge. / Where now is the youthful soldier on the march? / White dew drenches his clothes, yet he has not returned home. / By the sea today there is no washerwoman's home; / South of the River, who meets the noble wandering youth? / Lingering beneath the moon, in vain I chant aloud; / For our kind, an understanding ear has ever been hard to find. / Wishing to ascend the high terrace, I ask the bright moon: / Why does the bright moon not shine upon human hearts?
