In the mountains, bitterly suffering lack of rain, / Day after day we gaze at the clouds and rainbow. / Lesser Heat gives way to Greater Heat; / Deep streams have turned to shallow rills. / Springs have dried down to the bottom of wells; / The earth is parched, burning the vegetable beds. / There is no way to inquire of Heaven’s will; / In vain I yearn for the crying of waterbirds (it is popularly said that when waterbirds cry, rain falls upon all under heaven).
