Recently, I humbly received the transmission of official documents sent from afar by the great prefecture, summoning me to oversee this renowned mountain and bestowing upon me the master's seat. Having examined my own emptiness and shallowness, upon hearing the order I was seized with alarm. When I reflect upon the fact that there is no time to decline, I am ashamed of this undeserved advancement and of having no merit to show. I humbly consider that you, respected officials, have brought your Dao to the utmost of unity and comprehensive insight across the Nine Streams; you unite diverse opinions to realize public fairness, and consult all goods to achieve good order. You delight in following the teachings of the Western Sage to broaden his superior affinities, and honor the governance of the eastern marquis to elevate his illustrious commands. The wording and intent are so refined, and your kindness and affection are profoundly deep. Having received your virtue with cause, I divine that hastening toward your presence will not be far off. I have respectfully dispatched a monk in advance to rush this memorial to inform you and to extend my consultation and thanks. I humbly pray that your honorable benevolence will deign to look upon this with favor.
