The Tang monks Jiaoran, Lingche, and Daobiao were celebrated in Wu and Yue for their virtue in the Way. Hence a popular saying praised them, saying: 'Zhou of Zha possesses clear elegance; Che of Yue is like ice and snow; Biao of Hang grazes the clouds in the sky.'
