Heaven is supremely high; Earth is supremely vast; ghosts and spirits are supremely dark and subtle. When one cultivates the Dharma of our sage, Heaven and Earth respond to it; when one puts forth the words of our sage, ghosts and spirits comply with it. Heaven and Earth share the same mind with the sage; ghosts and spirits share the same numinous awareness with the sage. This is surely because they resonate with one another according to their kind. When feelings are not the same, people become estranged; when kinds are not the same, creatures turn contrary. If it is not their proper way, even a child will not follow. Now, moving Heaven and Earth, shaking ghosts and spirits, gaining the acceptance of the common people and the foreign tribes, and passing through past and present without their minds parting from it—thus the great pervasiveness and supreme attainment of our sage's Way can conclusively be seen.
