曩妙明儒時。未嘗寄口於佛經（曩昔也。言往昔之日為儒。時未嘗掛口於佛經）。

that formerly, when Miaoming was a Confucian, he never let Buddhist scriptures pass his lips. ('Formerly' means the past. It means that in past days when you were a Confucian, at that time you never hung Buddhist scriptures upon your mouth.)
