1.55

以先佛之迦葉般涅槃後佛當補處。名曰護明（梵語具云摩訶般涅槃那此云大滅度。亦云大寂滅。自迦葉佛涅槃之後。佛補其一處。特待出現之時）。

Because after the previous Buddha, Kāśyapa, entered parinirvāṇa, the Buddha was destined to succeed to that place, he was named Prabhāpāla. (In full Sanskrit Mahāparinirvāṇa, which here means 'Great Extinction-Liberation' or 'Great Quiescent Extinction'. After Kāśyapa Buddha's nirvāṇa, the Buddha succeeded to that single station, waiting especially for the time to manifest in the world.)
