客曰。延福莫過於繼嗣。不孝莫過於無後（莫無也。欲延長於福者。無能超過繼續於後嗣。欲莫不稱為不孝者無過不絕於後嗣也）。

The guest said: "In extending blessings, nothing surpasses continuing the lineage; in unfilial behavior, nothing surpasses having no descendants. (['Nothing surpasses':] 'no' means none. For one who wishes to prolong blessings, nothing can exceed carrying on the subsequent lineage. For one who would avoid being called unfilial, nothing exceeds not cutting off one's subsequent lineage.)
