是以君子達則兼濟天下。不達則獨善其身（若嚴陵子牙買臣昆吾禹舜相如朱亥等。皆聖君賢臣身既通達則道兼濟於天下。身未通達則獨守善其身也）。

Therefore, when the noble person is successful, he benefits the whole world alongside himself; when he is unsuccessful, he cultivates his own personal goodness in solitude (like Yan Ling, Ziya, Maichen, Kunwu, Yu, Shun, Xiangru, and Zhu Hai, who were all sage rulers and worthy ministers; once their persons attained success, their Way benefited the whole world; while their persons had not yet attained success, they preserved goodness in solitude within themselves).
