3.44

夫聖人之道。豈直局於儀飾而已矣（夫上古聖君。用敦德賢朴行道以化民。豈直以局在冠冕儀飾而已矣）。

How could the Way of the sages be confined merely to ceremonial adornments? (The sagely rulers of high antiquity used earnest virtue and genuine plainness to practice the Way and transform the people; how could they be confined merely to the ceremonial adornments of caps and crowns?)
