'Furthermore, sovereigns like Shun and Yu may be called sages, yet Yang Zhu opposed and reviled them. (Reviling means slandering. Liezi says: Yang Zhu said, 'Shun plowed at Heyang and made pottery at Leize; his four limbs did not enjoy a moment's rest, his mouth and belly had nothing delicious or rich, his parents did not love him, and his younger brother and sister were not affectionate to him. At thirty years of age, he married without telling his parents. By the time he received Yao's abdication, his years were advanced and his wisdom was declining. Because Shangjun was untalented, he abdicated the throne to Yu, living sorrowfully until his death. This was a man afflicted and tormented by Heaven. Gun controlled the waters and land, but his achievements were not accomplished, so he was executed on Mount Yu. Yu inherited the task and served his father's enemy, merely surveying the landworks. When his son was born he did not name him, and when passing his door he did not enter. His body became half-paralyzed, and his hands and feet became calloused. When he received Shun's abdication, he kept his palace chambers humble and lived sorrowfully until his death. This was a man burdened with grief and hardship by Heaven.')
